Default Timmayfest 2015 Autocross event participation....

If we were to organize an Autocross event to replace the dyno day, how many people would actually participate?

Only cause you asked....

I think a dyno day is more crowd friendly than an autox event, but I'm sure you would be able to get a handful of people wanting to do an autox event, especially with this crowd.

I would do either one personally.

If the autox event allowed any other car makes, it would be about medium-sized. I'd say 40-50 participants are not out of the questions.

But then the mouth breathers are going to want into the show, and one thing I commend Tim for doing is keeping the show mature and controlled.

Timmayfest is established enough that I believe only the previous participants would do the autocross. I don't think you're going to have an onslaught of miata's showup.

That being said, would it just be for fun or would you have classes and awards? Have you worked something out with a group that already does autocross so you can rent their timing lights/cones? You have a nice sized venue for it as well?

Kale?

From my experience through events with my club a dyno is more likely to have new people try it out, and easier for a group of people to enjoy. If the intent is to have a large crowd of people I just feel the dyno day would be more effective. In autox more people are weary of trying it and most don't understand it enough to go out of their way.

It's like serving sushi vs. pizza.

There are no official plans for this event. This thread is just to gauge interest. I am asking past attendees, other forum regulars, and Facebook groups of their interest as well. So far it is an overwhelming "not interested". Like Billy pointed out, most people haven't done it, so they are weary of trying. They have also stated that Autocross is much harder on a car/tires than drag racing or the dyno, they would prefer to just stick with that. I am just trying to see what the "masses" would be interested in.

I have contacted Kale and have asked for his help on gathering information on making this happen, if there is enough interest. We will still have the drag racing event Friday night. I had a conversation with IPS today about the Dyno event. This would just be another option. An Autocross event would possibly happen at the same time the Dyno or the Drag strip event, giving people an option of which event to attend. Of course that means I would need additional help running multiple events. Again, I am just trying to please the masses here.......

This event would only be open to TF attendees. This event would NOT be in conjunction with any other clubs or organizations. No trophies or awards, at least for the first year. I would still have to try out the event and see how it is received by attendees.

I'd autox my MGB. My Z4 wouldn't do too well. Needs heat in the brakes in order to give confidence through the pedal. MG will just lockup the rears and make ridiculous 9000 rpm rotary noises.

i wouldn't mind trying it for the experience. would be better if an instructor or someone with some runs under their belt rode with a noob (me) for pointers. i have been trying to get into auto x for the last few years but never happened. this is my last year of school so I might try a few runs this year and see how it is...

I mean the type of people that smash bottles in hotel parking lots and think it's cool to do pulls by a car show. There's a time and place for drunken burnouts and headbutting beer cans, sadly that isn't Timmayfest.

After speaking with Kale, we can't make it happen this year. There are too many events happening that weekend with SCCA. We don't have anyone to facilitate the event.

Maybe next year......

Just spitballin:
THE GAUNTLET
A 3 day 3 event automotive Top Gear based challenge.
-Dyno day
-Auto Cross
-1/4 Mile

Points awarded per event, winner gets to take everyone else's cars home and gets the titles to their houses. Homeless need not apply.

EDIT: 4 events, add in a challenge where you have to fit as many blowup dolls as you can in the car. Most blowup dolls wins that challenge.
