Kale, there is a 325xiT up here in Cleveland (in the newpaper).

Doesn't have any miles listed, but it's $8900 or best offer.

216-346-3009 is the phone #. Call them up. Black on Black.

Would anyone in Cincy want to go to 'Cincy Imports' and look at 2 E46 Tourings for me?

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...22545882&Log=0

I prefer the Silver Grey metallic because of the lower miles and I like that color better.

If anyone could go check these out to see if it's worth the driver for me, please let me know.

Here is their address:

Cincy Imports
3892 West Montgomery Road
Loveland, OH 45140

TIA!

This is pretty close to where I work, and near Josh and Chris' houses in Maineville. The one time I've been was to test drive a first-gen Boxster and it was a piece of ****, didn't even feel safe driving it. They also made news last year when they had about 50 cars taken from them in some sort of 'sting', but that's the extent of my knowledge. They seem sketchy.

Kale just let me know what you'd like me to check out, or what to look for specifically since I'm not fluent in E46, I'll see if I can seeing by today or tomorrow.

Well, the search for a local, quality E46 touring has been tough.

I have expanded my search criteria and found this today thanks to one of our new members (owndjoo) that works at Germain Cadillac of Easton.

It's a 2003 525i Sport with 102k miles on the clock.

Link to car --> http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...28019081&Log=0

Had some service records, and the cooling system was just overhauled, has brand new wheels and tires and fresh alignment. No accidents that I could see and none came up on carfax.....

I test drove the car, took it out on the highway and it drove really well. Wife is coming with me tomorrow to look at it again and take a test drive with me again (and to make the sure the car seat fits ok in the back )

So to all my E39 folks, anything else I should be looking for?

Thanks!

Is he still in a rear facing seat and is Beth tall? My brother had to sell his cause his wife is 6ft and with the seat pushed up to allow carseat she has zero leg room. That's a sweet car though hope you get it.

Nope, he is forward facing. Car seat fits in the back on the M, but only in the middle. Hoping it will fit behind my seat if need be. He's getting heavy to lift across seats haha

well the M52TU is a stout motor...oil separator valves fail, VANOS fails (like the S52) but I can't think of anything else that usually fails uncommonly of BMWs (ie: cooling system, suspension bushings)

Cooling system was just done (radiator, WP, ET, hoses) along with belts, tensioners, and pulleys.

....and I think it's an M54B25, not M52

trans fluid and filter?
diff fluid?
probably not seeing as they're "life time fluids"

other filters (fuel, micro cabin, etc)?

yeah, that's easy stuff. I'm more worried about the engine and tranny. All the bushings and stuff are superficial to me. When I drove it today, it pulled hard in regular, sport and 'manual' shift mode....also broke hard in a straight line.

If the wife approves it may be getting a PPI and a new home

If you were going to be ok with the rear leg room in the e46 Touring, you'll be fine with the e39. They have very similar rear leg room (34.4 vs. 34.2).

As much as I would like to keep with the BMW family, I think my next move is going to be into an A6 wagon. Lots of rear leg room, tons of storage, and it looks good. The downside is that you give up pretty much all driving pleasure (auto and 3.2 = boo).

As and e39 owner, I would hold out for a 530i if you want an inline-6. I get the same gas mileage as the m54b25, but have more power. As someone mentioned, the e39s are needy for suspension components, cooling systems, and love to crack interior wood trim. And, then there is just the inherent inline-6 vanos, CCV, and etc. Part costs are higher for suspension components since it is all aluminum versus steel. Surprisingly, an e39 is only a few hundred pounds heavier than a loaded e46, but, I feel, has a nicer interior. Never driven and e46, so I can comment, but I love putting mileage on the e39.

You can rear-face in the e39 pretty comfortably with the normal child safety seats if you are not too tall (I'm 5'10"). If you want some nice child safety seats that are just awesome:

http://www.albeebaby.com/diono-radia...seat-plum.html (available in other colors)

My wife and I just purchased a set for our 5 year old and 3 year old. They are rated from 5 lbs - 120 lbs and can rear face. The absolutely epic part of the seats is how less bulky they are compared to a Britax or Recaro. Three of these will definitely fit across the back seat of the e39. And, best of all:

They fit the small seats in the back of the Porsche, so I can use it for family outings!!!!

Well......I'm pulling the trigger on this one .....been negotiating with Germain all week and finally got them to a number that the wife and I like. Going to pick it up tomorrow morning

It's just been too hard finding a touring that I like, and this car fits every criteria that I was looking for sans touring.

Proper thread to follow.

Thanks to member owndjoo for letting me know about this one

booya! I might be looking at an e39 myself next year, depending on what happens to my e46 this year.
