Under 30 doesn't matter salt-wise because the salt needs water to start the chemical reaction that causes the damage. So if the all the water is frozen... no salt damage.

That being said, I now store mine. Had to drive it my first winter because I had nowhere to store it + a beater. Even with snow tires it was an adventure.

The bad news: I almost ruined my new wheels due to salt that I didn't know was on them.
Good News: After hours of intense polishing I was able to make them close to 100% again
Really good news: The wife felt bad for me and gave the approval for a set of "winter wheels".... In related news, anyone have a decent set of CSL reps to sell?

2009/2010 was the first and last year I drove my car in the snow/salt. I got rid of my S-10 minitruck project and bought a 4x4 Jimmy so I can keep my E46 from rusting out like all the other cars around here.

I'll try to get a picture but there is a guy in Ann Arbor, 2011 Interlagos Blue (maybe LeMans) 4D M3, with some 19" CSL wheels with tiny low profile BLIZZAKS!! I have seen it twice, once in early December, and again today. Straight off the lot into Michigan winter.

I store it. Not that the car is worth all that much anymore, but winter is just tough all around on a car even excluding the salt/rust issue. Both the interior and exterior take a beating during the winter.
